45 cm Dishwashers

A 45 cm dishwasher is the answer to a narrow kitchen: it takes a quarter less width than a standard machine and still washes 9–10 place settings, which is enough for one or two people or as a second machine. Height and depth match the wider models, so it fits a normal run of units and can be integrated behind a cabinet door.

How many place settings fit into a 45 cm machine?

A slim dishwasher washes 9–10 place settings, against 12–14 in a 60 cm machine. That covers the daily dishes of one or two people, or works as a second machine in a large household.

Is a 45 cm dishwasher as effective as a 60 cm one?

The wash result is the same: the programmes, spray arms and temperatures follow the same technology. Only the capacity is smaller. Water and electricity consumption per cycle is lower, but if you have to run it more often, the total consumption can end up higher than with a larger machine.

Do slim dishwashers have a cutlery tray?

Some do. In a slim machine the third level is a genuine space saver, because it frees the lower basket for plates and pots. Check the model description, as the tray is more common on higher-end machines.

What is the noise level of a slim dishwasher?

Typically 44–49 dB. Quiet slim models reach about 44 dB, which is suitable next to a living area. Slim machines are rarely as quiet as the quietest 60 cm models, because there is less room for insulation.

Do large plates fit into a 45 cm dishwasher?

Standard dinner plates fit without trouble. Very large serving dishes, oven trays and wide pots may not, because the basket is 15 cm narrower. If you often wash oven trays, a 60 cm machine is the safer choice.

Does a slim dishwasher use less water?

Per cycle yes, typically a couple of litres less than a 60 cm machine. The saving only holds if the machine is run full. Washing two half loads in a slim machine uses more water than one full load in a wide one.

Is a safety tray needed under a 45 cm machine?

Yes, the same requirement applies regardless of width. The tray is fitted under the machine so that a leak becomes visible in front of it instead of soaking into the floor structure.

Can a slim dishwasher be integrated into the units?

Yes. Slim machines are available as fully integrated, semi-integrated and freestanding versions, just like the wider ones. The height and depth match the standard, so the machine fits a normal run of kitchen units.
