Chest Freezers

The main advantages of a chest freezer are larger continuous storage space, better energy efficiency, and the ability to maintain cold temperatures longer during power outages. Since cold air is heavier than warm air, it does not escape as easily when the lid is opened.

Organization is made easier with the included freezing baskets, where you can sort smaller or frequently needed products. Larger batches should be packed in clearly labeled, rectangular containers or bags that are easy to stack. A good tip is also to keep a list of the contents of the freezer.

The climate class indicates the ambient temperature range in which the appliance is designed to operate flawlessly. The most common classes are SN (10–32 °C), N (16–32 °C), ST (16–38 °C), and T (16–43 °C). If you plan to place the freezer in a cool area, such as a basement or garage, it is very important to choose a model whose climate class allows operation at low temperatures.

A chest freezer without automatic defrosting should be defrosted at least once a year or when the frost layer is about one inch thick. A thick layer of frost reduces the freezer's efficiency and significantly increases its energy consumption.

This is one of the major advantages of a chest freezer. A well-insulated and fully packed chest freezer can maintain freezing temperatures for up to 24–48 hours during a power outage, provided the lid is not opened. This offers excellent protection against unexpected power outages.

Shelf life depends on the food item. As a general rule, berries and vegetables keep well for about a year. Fatty meats and fish last for a shorter time, around 2–4 months, while lean meats can remain good for up to 8–12 months. Breads and pastries generally stay well for around 3 months. The most important thing is to freeze the products as fresh as possible and in airtight packaging.
