CANDY - Fridges

The recommended temperature for a refrigerator is +2 – +6 degrees. At this temperature, most food items stay fresh best, and the growth of bacteria is effectively slowed down. Remember that there may be slight temperature variations in different parts of the refrigerator.

Place the most perishable items, such as meat and fish, in the coldest part of the refrigerator, which is usually the bottom shelf. Vegetables and fruits belong in the vegetable drawer at the bottom. Milk, eggs, and cheese store well in the middle section, and the door is the warmest place, suitable for beverages and condiments.

It is good to wipe the interior of the refrigerator clean every 1–2 months and to do a more thorough cleaning at least a couple of times a year. Regular cleaning prevents odors from forming and keeps the appliance hygienic.

This is often normal. Modern refrigerators have automatic defrosting, which melts the frost that accumulates on the back wall at regular intervals, and the water drains away through a drain hole. If the drain hole is clogged, water can accumulate at the bottom of the cabinet. Therefore, ensure that the hole is clean.

No. The refrigerator needs enough space around it for air circulation in order to dissipate heat effectively. Check the manufacturer’s recommended minimum distances from walls and ceilings in the appliance’s user manual. Sufficient air circulation ensures that the compressor does not have to run more than necessary.

An old refrigerator that has served for more than 10–15 years consumes significantly more electricity than a new one. It is worth replacing it if the appliance makes strange noises, no longer cools properly, or if the door seals are clearly damaged. A new refrigerator in a good energy class pays for itself over time through lower electricity bills.
