HELKAMA - Tumble Dryers

Tumble dryer – Everyday lifesaver and textile softener

A tumble dryer is an indispensable helper, especially for families with children and households that do a lot of laundry. It not only significantly speeds up the drying of laundry but also makes clothes, towels, and sheets luxuriously soft without fabric softener. In Euronics' selection, you will find gentle tumble dryers from brands such as Bosch, Siemens, AEG, Electrolux and Miele.

Heat pump tumble dryer or condenser model?

Modern tumble dryers are mainly divided into two groups: those utilizing heat pump technology and traditional condenser models.

• A heat pump tumble dryer is currently the most popular choice. It circulates heat efficiently, consuming up to 50% less electricity than a traditional model. It also dries clothes at a lower temperature, which is gentler on textiles.
• A condenser tumble dryer is often more affordable to purchase, but it consumes more energy and releases more heat into the room air.

When making your choice, it is also worth considering the load capacity, noise level, and special programs (e.g., wool, down). If you want to delve deeper into the features and differences of the appliances, take a look at our tumble dryer buying guide, where you can find tips for choosing the right appliance.

Frequently asked questions about tumble dryers

How do I choose the right size tumble dryer?

As a rule of thumb, the capacity of the tumble dryer should match the load capacity of your washing machine. If your washing machine is 8 kg, choose at least an 8 kg tumble dryer. Wet laundry is heavy and needs space in the drum to "fly" so that it dries evenly and wrinkles less.

Can I install a tumble dryer on top of a washing machine?

Yes, you can, and this solution is called a washing tower. It saves floor space in the bathroom. The installation always requires a brand-specific or universal stacking kit to securely attach the tumble dryer on top of the washing machine. Ensure that the washing machine is deep enough for the tumble dryer.

Does a tumble dryer need to be connected to a drain?

Most tumble dryers collect water in a built-in water tank that is emptied manually. However, almost all models have the option to connect the appliance directly to a drain using an included or separately purchased drain hose. This is the most effortless method, as you won't need to empty the tank.

Does a tumble dryer shrink clothes?

Older tumble dryers could shrink clothes due to high temperatures. Modern heat pump tumble dryers dry at lower temperatures and use moisture sensors that end the program as soon as the laundry is dry. This protects clothes from overheating and shrinking. Always check the garment's washing instructions, however.

What does heat pump technology mean?

Heat pump technology (Heat Pump) recovers the heat energy from the exhaust air and reuses it to heat the drying air. Thanks to this, the appliances often belong to the best energy classes (A++ or A+++) and save considerably on electricity bills over the appliance's lifespan.

How is a tumble dryer maintained?

The most important maintenance task is cleaning the lint filter after every drying cycle. A clean filter ensures good air circulation and fast drying. In addition, the condenser (or heat exchanger) must be cleaned regularly, unless the appliance has an automatically cleaning condenser (SelfCleaning Condenser).

Can wool or down be dried in a tumble dryer?

Yes, if the machine has special programs for them. Many modern dryers are Woolmark certified, which means that even hand-washable wool can be safely dried in them. A tumble dryer is excellent for drying down products, as it keeps the down fluffy – remember to use dryer balls to enhance the fluffing.

What is required to install a tumble dryer?

To operate, a tumble dryer needs a standard grounded power outlet (schuko). Unlike a washing machine, it does not need a water connection from a tap. Adequate ventilation in the room is recommended, even though heat pump models do not release moisture into the room air in the same way as older appliances.
