A washer dryer is a single appliance that handles both functions. A washing tower consists of two separate appliances (a washing machine and a tumble dryer) installed on top of each other. A washer dryer saves space, while a washing tower allows for a larger drying capacity and processing two loads simultaneously (one washing, one drying).
