The Garmin Varia RCT716 enhances your cycling safety by integrating a rear radar, internal camera, and bright tail light into one compact device.
This device continuously captures traffic behind you and automatically saves footage when an event is detected. The recording includes moments before, during, and after the incident. The internal camera records video at a maximum resolution of 1080p at 30 frames per second, providing clear and detailed footage when needed.
The rear radar identifies approaching vehicles from up to 140 meters away. It uses a speed differential algorithm to distinguish between rapidly approaching vehicles and those passing at a slower rate, ensuring you receive timely visual and audio alerts on compatible Garmin Edge bike computers, smartphones, or certain Garmin wearables.
The bright tail light, with an output of up to 5 lumens, ensures high visibility with a wide, up to 220-degree viewing angle, making you more noticeable in traffic. The STVZO-compliant model for Germany utilizes a constant basic light without flashing mode.
The Varia RCT716 seamlessly integrates with Garmin Edge devices and the Varia app. Through the app, you can view recorded footage, transfer videos, and adjust camera settings, including video overlay information. Live video streaming and settings adjustment are available within the app but not while cycling for safety reasons. With a compatible smartphone, the device also supports third-party applications, such as Ride with GPS, and displays radar alerts on a map view.
Its compact and streamlined design attaches directly to your bike seat post with included mounts. IPX7 water resistance protects against splashes and rain. With a battery life of up to 5 hours (using radar and constant light with 1080p recording), it’s sufficient for most rides.
